Delmarva Power Sends Us the Bill
The News Journal reports that Delmarva Power will ask its customers to cover its expenses relating to the year-long effort to find a new source of energy here in Delaware:

Delaware's stalled effort to find home-grown sources of electricity will cost Delmarva Power ratepayers about $4.6 million.Delmarva Power has fought this every step of the way, and ratepayers are being billed for the company's intransigence.
Delmarva insists its $3.7 million share was money well-spent. Others contend it was spent in a way to discredit offshore wind power.
Delmarva spent the money on consultants and legal fees to address a legislative mandate to seek new in-state power sources, Delmarva spokesman Bill Yingling said. He offered no breakdown, and noted that the total is a preliminary estimate.

This is enough to make me a lot more angry with what passes in Dover as leadership for and by the people.
This is an area that begs for re-regulation. I am currently looking for the list of house members, Helene Keeley was one, who sent the bill to the senate (de-reg + corp merger) so that they could revise the ethical guidelines for recusal from 5 thousand dollars to close to a million of value invested in this utility.
The only freedom in this market is the increasing ability of large corporations to steal from the consumer. The state legislature needs to awaken from their eternal slumber and move on this one before none of us can afford to heat our homes any longer.

It is ridiculous, though not surprising, that I am now to pay for the sketchy radio commercials Delmarva aired against off-shore wind. Too bad there is not an alternative better company for my gas purchases.
When oh when will Delmarva Power customers rise up and get candidates to challenge McDowell, DeLuca, Blevins, Hocker and the rest who block off-shore wind? Until things change in Dover, Delmarva Power owns our wallets, our state, our kids, our future.
Ezra raises a good point. Those of us left to face the Delmarva-PAPCO debacle are the ones stuck with them. The very government itself has moved to combine with county and muni for their own DP&L deal.
Those of us in Newark are stuck, even though the city is the 'provider' we are paying the 60* pass along from DP&L and I am not sure if those in a CO-OP have the option of taking another provider or not.
